When a filling just won’t do
Dental crowns and caps are often used interchangeably. When dental issues like decay, cracked fillings, root canals, or teeth clenching have caused significant damage to a tooth, a dental filling may not be enough for restoration. To fully restore both the appearance and function of the tooth, a dental crown is usually necessary. The good news is that once the process is complete, a dental crown will look and feel like a natural tooth.
In addition to restoring a single natural tooth, crowns have many other uses. They can provide support for dental bridges, cover dental implants, or protect a cracked tooth from further damage. Crowns can also be used to restore the natural appearance of a discolored or stained tooth. They can be made from materials like porcelain baked onto a metal substrate, all-porcelain, or various new ceramic materials that have been developed.
