What is involved in T-scan?
Dr. Drew Carrell of Lakeview Family Dentistry utilizes a T-scan device as an objective assessment tool to evaluate a patient's occlusion, commonly referred to as "the bite". Unlike articulating paper, which is known as "bite paper" to patients and can only determine tooth location, a T-scan can identify both the force and timing, which are crucial parameters for measuring the occlusion or bite. This device plays a significant role in assessing the strength the jaw uses to function properly.
Many patients may develop TMJ or Temporal Mandibular Joint Syndrome after orthodontic treatment or multiple dental procedures that involve changes in jaw positioning. While dentists often use bite paper to check the bite, this method does not assess the muscle relationship between the upper and lower jaw. For patients currently experiencing jaw issues or those at high risk for such issues after dental procedures, it may be necessary to undergo a T-scan assessment before, during, or after the procedures. Dr. Carrell utilizes a T-scan device on all our patients after completing orthodontic services to ensure precise and accurate jaw positioning.
