What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are a conservative yet effective way to enhance the appearance of imperfect teeth. These custom-made, ultra-thin facings are seamlessly bonded to the front of the teeth, providing a natural and aesthetically pleasing result. Veneers can conceal various imperfections such as misshapen teeth, minor chips, enamel defects, stains, and small gaps. They also address minor alignment issues. One of the main advantages of veneers is that they require minimal preparation of the natural tooth and deliver long-lasting results. Additionally, their thin structure preserves the maximum amount of natural tooth structure and is gentle on the gumline.

What to expect when getting veneers

Initial consultation and care

To start the process of getting dental veneers, we will first have a consultation to assess your dental health, oral function, and desired smile aesthetics. We will also discuss your smile goals and treatment expectations. Before fabricating your new veneers, it is important to address any periodontal issues or cavities in the teeth involved, although the veneer procedure itself is relatively fast.

Tooth preparation and Impression taking

The amount of tooth preparation required for porcelain veneers varies depending on the case and the type of veneer. However, the removal of tooth structure from the front and sides is typically minimal, only enough to ensure a natural and strong appearance. After the teeth are prepared, an impression is taken and a shade of porcelain is chosen. The veneers are then sent to a dental laboratory for custom fabrication. In the meantime, temporary veneer facings are used to cover the teeth until the permanent ones are ready.

Fitting and placement

Once your veneers are prepared, it is important to check their fit, size, shade, and shape. Before they are attached to your teeth, any necessary adjustments will be made to ensure a precise fit and the best possible appearance. We will also make sure that you are happy with the way your new smile looks. Once the veneers are fitted and approved, the teeth involved will be cleaned and the veneers will be permanently bonded in place using composite resin cement. If any additional adjustments or minor refinements are needed, they will be done after the placement.
