What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are a great way to enhance the appearance of imperfect teeth. These thin facings are custom-made and expertly bonded to the front of the teeth, resulting in a natural and pleasing outcome. Veneers can effectively hide imperfections like misshapen teeth, minor chips, enamel defects, stains, and small gaps. They can also help with minor alignment issues. One of the main benefits of veneers is that they require minimal preparation of the natural tooth, ensuring long-lasting results. Furthermore, their thin structure preserves the maximum amount of natural tooth structure and is gentle on the gumline.

What to expect when getting veneers

Initial consultation and care

To start the dental veneers process, we will first have a consultation to assess your dental health, oral function, and the smile aesthetics you desire. During this consultation, we will discuss your smile goals and treatment expectations. It is important to address any periodontal issues or cavities in the relevant teeth before creating your new veneers. Although the veneer procedure is quick, it is crucial to prioritize the health of your natural teeth beforehand.

Tooth preparation and Impression taking

The amount of tooth preparation required for porcelain veneers depends on the specific case and the type of veneer chosen. Typically, only a small amount of tooth structure is removed from the front and sides to maintain a natural and strong appearance. After preparing the teeth, an impression is taken and a porcelain shade is selected. The veneers are then sent to a dental laboratory to be custom-made. In the meantime, temporary veneer facings are applied to protect the teeth until the permanent ones are completed.

Fitting and placement

Before attaching your veneers to your teeth, it is important to evaluate their fit, size, shade, and shape. We will make any necessary adjustments to ensure a precise fit and the most pleasing appearance. We will also ensure that you are satisfied with the aesthetics of your new smile. Once the veneers are accurately fitted and approved, we will clean the involved teeth and securely bond the veneers in place using composite resin cement. If any further adjustments or refinements are needed, they will be done after the placement.
